Meetings March 24, 31 will discuss future of Amrheins building

LEFT: A rendering of the proposed 95-foot building at 80-110 West Broadway as it was presented to the IAG on March 10 by property developer Matteson Companies. The IAG requested that developers revise the proposal not to exceed 70-feet. RIGHT: The revised proposal presented to the IAG on March 24 reduced the height to 82.5-feet.

Update: A video of the March 24 IAG meeting, and the presentation given by developers at that meeting, are now available online at the BPDA project page at www.bostonplans.org/projects/development-projects/80-west-broadway.

The fate of the Amrheins building at 80 West Broadway generated neighborhood-wide interest last month when the Boston Preservation Alliance publicly opposed developers’ plans to demolish the historical (if not historic) building.

There are two upcoming meetings regarding 80 West Broadway that community members may be interested in attending. Both are open to the public, although there will not necessarily be a public comment period at the Impact Advisory Group (IAG) meeting on March 24.

At the IAG meeting on March 10, developers presented plans that would preserve the four-story Amrheins building while adding a 95-foot commercial building in place of a section of Amrheins and the parking lot. Click here to view the March 10 presentation.

IAG members objected to a building over 70 feet high, and requested that the developers revise their plans to not exceed that height. Developers are expected to present revised plans to the IAG on Wednesday, March 24. On Wednesday, March 31, developers will present their plans in a public meeting.
