Your support powered our progress

This year has been remarkable for South Boston NDC — and none of it would have been possible without you. Your generosity, your belief in our mission, and your commitment to this community have fueled every milestone we reached in 2025. We are thrilled to share just some of what you helped make happen.

South Boston NDC is on track to break ground on McDevitt Senior Homes in mid-2026, with completion expected in 2027, with special thanks to generous grants from Cambridge Savings Bank, Needham Bank, and First Citizens Bank. This development will soon become home to 35 low-income seniors.

McDevitt Senior Homes also received a $1,000,000 Climate Ready Housing award, ensuring the adaptive reuse of the former St. Augustine’s Convent will be energy-efficient, resilient, and sustainable for generations.

We continue to support our 171 households, advocate for housing policy, and work directly with elected officials to strengthen housing opportunities for all. More than 200 residents joined us in advocating to keep Inclusionary Development Policy (IDP) units at the 776 Summer Street development on-site.

Our housing counselor worked one-on-one with dozens of residents searching for safe, stable places to call home.

We organized outings, gatherings, and celebrations for seniors at O’Connor Way and West Fourth Street — including a milestone 100th birthday celebration — and veterans at Patriot Homes. A grant from the Mayor’s Office of Veterans’ Services enabled us to provide Patriot Homes residents with furniture, healthcare access, food, transportation, while Delta Dental provided dental kits. And our veterans were honored by Boston’s Office of Veterans’ Services during the city’s Mission: Honor Our Veterans event.

The 15 trees we planted in 2024 through a grant from the Boston Tree Alliance are thriving! And we helped care for the city’s new street trees this summer by keeping them watered.

South Boston NDC is now the proud holder of the conservation restriction for Sr. Mary Veronica Park, ensuring this beloved open space remains protected for future generations.

Once again, the South Boston Farmers Market thrived — with nearly 300 people visiting every Monday, and one in three shoppers using HIP benefits to access fresh, local produce. Riverdale Farm and Capo Restaurant always draw crowds!

Our community gardens flourished, and together with volunteers, we planted flowers throughout the neighborhood. We also hosted a post-parade cleanup in the neighborhood.

The 25th South Boston Street Fest was our biggest ever — featuring 100 local vendors and drawing more than 10,000 attendees! The Spring and Christmas Strolls, Trick or Treat on Broadway, and the annual hanging of 290 festive wreaths all helped drive foot traffic to our small businesses. A grant from the Boston Planning Department strengthened these efforts and helped us welcome a new Director of the Chamber of Commerce, Jenni McNeill.

We were thrilled to welcome Brick Street Bagels, now a neighborhood favorite, into one of our commercial spaces.

Your generosity and support made every one of these accomplishments possible. As we look toward 2026, we hope you will continue standing with us to build a stronger, more affordable, and more vibrant South Boston.
